Layout-8000 v14.9.1
3/25/2015
Highlights
Blocks may have longer names. This helps Layout-8000 better integrate with ClassPag and classified workflow.
Modern complexities like bleed and unique-width ads are better supported by various interfaces.
Several bugs and issues were addressed.
Improvements
Select Product
- When someone tries to select a locked product, the warning pop-up correctly shows the lock ID instead of the product ID.
- The order entry form's "Single Ad" tab shows Edition names for the correct Paper.
- The Interface tool accepts a Bleed flag from Tab-Separated Values (TSV) files.
- The Interface tool may be invoked on TRANS.DAT files.
- The "Add Ad/Block" form has a new optional "Vendor ID" field.
- Block Templates may specify an expression for the Vendor ID. The Vendor ID may be up to 64 characters. This is long enough to support long block names that SCS/ClassPag passes to CCI's editorial system.
- In the Advertising and Editorial Blocks menu, the form to edit or create a block has an optional new "Block Name" field. It is tied to the aforementioned Vendor ID.
- The interface to CCI editorial systems populates CCI's <BookingNumber> tag with an advertising block's Vendor ID. If a Vendor ID is not present, Layout-8000 will fall back on the 10-character block ID which was previously used.
- Odd-sized ads have a correct width in the interface to Saxotech editorial systems.
- The "rlws" script which starts Layout-8000 has a new "-uh" option meant to address problems with windows that overlap the Micrsooft Windows taskbar. For example, "rlws -uh 80" tells Layout-8000 that the PC has 80 pixels of unusable vertical space.
- Pop-up info tips for ads and blocks include the Vendor ID field.
- Fixed a bug in the application of Block Templates. Upon entering the "Design & Dummy" area, the "New ID" for a block may in some cases have been blank.
- The option to automatically rezone dragged ads was global. It is now also site-specific. In Global Layout Settings, the option is still named "Rezone a dragged ad in the zones of the page it is dragged on". In Local Layout Settings, the option is named "Rezone dragged ads" with a code of "ADREZONE".
- Added diagnostics that check for inconsistency between the zone of a placement or placed page for an item and the zones of the item.
- Fixed a crash when the scope changed from the entire Paper to a group.
- When a section is renamed and the Inner scope is set to a page in that section, the Inner scope will change to reflect the new section letter.
- CCI page IDs may optionally appear on page dummies. The Parts tab has a new check box named "CCI page ID". When this box is checked, CCI page IDs will appear in place of the "Newshole" total at the top of each page.
- Removed Classic PGL from the Reports menu.
Send to Pagination
- Added support for lettered pages to SCS extended product XML files.
- The interface to CCI editorial systems allows measurements to be converted to two types of points: (1) PostScript points which are 72 points per inch; (2) printer's points which are approximately 72.27 points per inch. In CCI XML files, both types of points are represented with a unit abbreviation of "p".
- The interface to CCI editorial systems populates CCI's <BookingNumber> tag with an advertising block's Vendor ID. If a Vendor ID is not present, Layout-8000 will fall back on the 10-character block ID which was previously used.
Mirroring
- When someone runs Layout-8000, the following messages are now suppressed.
chgrp: changing group of `/u/rsynctmp/emptyfile': Operation not permitted
chgrp: changing group of `/u/rsynctmp/emptyfile': Operation not permitted
chgrp: changing group of `/u/rsynctmp': Operation not permitted
Miscellaneous
- Fixed a bug that caused a segmentation fault (segfault) to be reported in system logs.
